Happy Friday, my fellow suffering beings. Each week, I share two things I’m digging right now (books, TV shows, movies, music, and the like) plus one online video of nearly zero cultural merit.
The Bikeriders. Two caveats here: First, I consumed this movie on a plane where I had taken some klonopin to fend off claustrophobia, so I might’ve been slightly dazed in the watching. Second, I’m not here to make some table pounding, full-throated recommendation of this thing—to me, it didn’t quite feel like a full meal. That said, it's a cool milieu: biker gangs in midcentury America. Also, the performances were riveting. Specifically, Austin Butler and Tom Hardy.
Into the Fire, on Netflix. Soapy and overwrought, but also a compelling and well-spun yarn. I’m a sucker for a good mystery—and this one involves rage, anger, denial, mental illness, and the power of a mother’s intuition.
Is this CGI? I can’t imagine our cats submitting to this.
One last thing…
I have a couple of public events coming up:
I will be doing a thing at Troutbeck, a lovely hotel in the Hudson Valley. I’ll guide a meditation and then take questions. November 24th. You can get tickets here.
On December 9th, I’ll be doing a live Meditation Party in NYC with Sebene Selassie and Jeff Warren. It’s a benefit for the New York Insight Meditation Center. Tickets available here.
Subscribers can comment on this and all my other posts. You can also chat with me, my staff, pod guests, and one another—about podcast episodes + whatever else I feel like discussing. Plus: podcast cheatsheets (with time-stamped highlights + full transcripts), live-streamed meditation sessions, and live video AMAs. Join the party.
I had a cat just like that loved the shower! He also would get into the pool and swim laps. Pre-video days so I don’t have any documentation. 😉 Have a great Friday everyone!
I love Friday Fixations! Reading this first thing in the morning, and I’m already in a cat video rabbit hole. Nice!!!
On another topic, I watched a Netflix series and immediately thought of you…if you’ve not seen it, check out Murder Mindfully. Here’s a short description: A lawyer finds catharsis in meditation techniques — and uses them in his new gig as a covert criminal. https://www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/murder-mindfully-release-date-news
