Happy Friday, my fellow suffering beings. Each week, I share two things I’m digging right now (books, TV shows, movies, music, and the like) plus one online video of nearly zero cultural merit.
Turnstile: NEVER ENOUGH: I’ve been an alt-rock fan since the ‘80s (shoutout to Tim Smith, the goth kid in my sophomore year homeroom, who gave me a blank tape with the Minutemen on one side and Sonic Youth on the other), but I never really got into hardcore punk—until these guys from Baltimore, who brilliantly weave in elements from EDM and other genres. (There’s even a flute breakdown in one song, which probably would have resulted in ritualized shunning back in the day.) The tunes are catchy—with Buddhist themes to boot.
Pee-wee as Himself, HBO: I think a lot about the hackneyed-yet-vital concept of authenticity. But how does having an alter ego fit into that? Somehow, Paul Reubens manages to seem fully himself—both as Pee-wee Herman and as himself—in this well-wrought doc.
My cats would never put up with this.
One more thing: The incredible meditation teacher and dear friend to many in this community, Spring Washam, is recovering from a bad accident. A GoFundMe has been created on her behalf for anyone interested in donating.

The look on that cat’s face.. he must really love that little girl. All the best to Spring!
