Happy Friday, my fellow suffering beings. Each week, I share two things I’m digging right now (books, TV shows, movies, music, and the like) plus one online video of nearly zero cultural merit.
Say Nothing, on FX/Hulu. Finally, after a long drought, a truly excellent new television show. It takes you inside the Irish Republican Army in the 1970s. Riveting. Affecting. Slyly funny.
Australian pub rock. This genre got started back in the 1970s with bands such as AC/DC, who played hard, riff-centric rock. Recently, I’ve been getting into the new generation of bands such as Amyl and the Sniffers, the Buoys, and Beddy Rays—who just released a new single called, “Stay the Same.”
Tony Baker is a genius of animal voiceover clips. This is one from YouTube (which works better in an email), but if you really want to enjoy his stuff, follow him on Instagram, where his handle is @tonybaker.
Heads up: Just in time for the holidays, all merch is 15% off on the danharris.com shop. The sale runs through December 2, so check it out while supplies last. (NB: We sold out of the Dump It Here journal, but will be restocking soon.)
One last thing: On December 9th, I’ll be doing a live Meditation Party in NYC with Sebene Selassie and Jeff Warren. It’s a benefit for the New York Insight Meditation Center. Tickets available here.
Subscribers can comment on this and all my other posts. You can also chat with me, my staff, pod guests, and one another—about podcast episodes + whatever else I feel like discussing. Plus: podcast cheatsheets (with time-stamped highlights + full transcripts), live-streamed meditation sessions, and live video AMAs. Join the party.
Dan - how do I listen to the
Podcast? I let my subscription lapse to the happier app and it will not let listen there. I was hoping to just listen with commercials….money is extra tight now.
Thanks for sharing! I've been revisiting routines and music from high school. Two-mile runs in the morning and listening to C and C Music Factory, The Fugees, and Outkast. The process has been deeply satisfying.
