Friday Fixations

What I'm into right now

Happy Friday, my fellow suffering beings. Each week, I share two things I’m digging right now (books, TV shows, movies, music, and the like) plus one online video of nearly zero cultural merit.  

• Say Nothing, on FX/Hulu. Finally, after a long drought, a truly excellent new television show. It takes you inside the Irish Republican Army in the 1970s. Riveting. Affecting. Slyly funny.

  

• Australian pub rock. This genre got started back in the 1970s with bands such as AC/DC, who played hard, riff-centric rock. Recently, I’ve been getting into the new generation of bands such as Amyl and the Sniffers, the Buoys, and Beddy Rays—who just released a new single called, “Stay the Same.” 

• Tony Baker is a genius of animal voiceover clips. This is one from YouTube (which works better in an email), but if you really want to enjoy his stuff, follow him on Instagram, where his handle is @tonybaker.
