How to take meditation off the cushion and into your life
The final day of the New Year's Meditation Challenge
Seated meditation is great. I try to do it every day. But the goal of meditation is not to get better at sitting quietly; it’s to bring mindfulness into every aspect of your life.
Which is why walking meditation is so incredibly powerful. It can get you into the habit of bringing awareness to something most of us do every day: lugging our bodies from place to place. (And let’s be honest: most of the time we’re walking, it’s actually more like sleepwalking.)
Today is the last day of the New Year’s meditation challenge. I wanted to end with a walking meditation because it’s a great way to send you out into the world, awake and aware. Our teacher du jour is the legendary Sharon Salzberg.
I’m doing a final live check-in tonight at 7:00PM ET, for paid subscribers. I’ll be answering questions and also sharing tips on how to keep going with a meditation habit.
And, and… even though the challenge is ending, there’s much more to come here on DanHarris.com. I will be launching a special series of live meditation sessions for the week of Trump's inauguration. It’s a reconvening of the “renegade sangha.” There will be surprise guests.
Thanks to those of you who did the challenge. Seriously. It’s a huge deal. If you missed some days, you can find all the meditations here.
Inner peace, mthrfkrs.
I’m so glad you included a walking meditation. I’ve only tried walking a few times because I got a little wobbly the first time I did it, just walking back and forth. I’m glad Sharon mentioned how to not lose your balance!
Thanks, Dan. Looking forward to the work around the inauguration. As a Brit, I will need it too so thank you!
