Hi Dan, I have been meaning to say for a while now but thank you so much for making these recordings available so quickly after the sessions. I live in the UK and have a young daughter, which means, with the time difference and bedtimes, joining live isn't an option. However, being able to be a part so close to the event means I never feel like an 'outsider' and for events like this short course means I can follow it nearly as closely as those 'in the room'. Anyhow, another great session and look forward to the next.

@JP, I read a post by another meditation teacher who said they don’t check the news until the afternoon, for their sanity. I interpreted that to mean: set a time to check the news that works for me. In practice, this means - for me - to be mindful of not paying attention to “the news” (substack, my political podcasts, even my email) in the late afternoon & evening. I try to set that time of day for non-political reading and podcast listening.

Thanks. I think it’s probably also being mindful of the habit of grabbing phone and going to news to scroll that needs to be cut too

There’s that mindfulness again. 🥰🤣🥰

Thank you, Team Dan! I appreciate you posting these sessions for those of us unable to join live. I cannot often join live from my current location but love seeing you provide more live options. Keep up the great work. IPMF! 😊

I am grateful to be a new member joining today, live in Asia, and I will do these meditations a day later, I’ve gained a lot today from day 1 loving kindness, felt there’s many people in the “ difficult” category may need to do multiples for that section. I am a meditator in recovery having been in this practice 10 years and out of it 5 years, now back.

Thanks for sharing the approach you take to sending lovingkindness to the difficult people in your life. That framing is very helpful.

I was one of the 1700 and really appreciated today session. Some constructive (I hope!) criticism for you – I suggest you spend more time answering the questions in the chat and less time thanking people for their comments telling you how great you are. Don’t get me wrong – I truly appreciate you and this work you’re doing. That’s why I’m a paid subscriber. You have so much wisdom and experience - I want to hear more from you! Maybe questions could be flagged for you by your staff - and you could bask in all the affirmation off-line? I’m looking forward to the rest of the week!

People who express their thanks in the comments may enjoy seeing Dan receive their message? That’s how I’ve viewed these moments. But I also see your perspective and agree, the more shared wisdom the better

I’m sure you’re right Lisa - that folks enjoy seeing Dan receive their message. I just really wanted Dan to address my question. We all want the teacher’s attention, I guess. 🙂 Thanks for commenting on my comment. It makes me feel less alone.

Feeling loving kindness for all beings is especially difficult given all of the horrible acts of violence and oppression in the world. Also difficult to wish may you be healthy in your mind and body for those suffering from terminal illness.

Not sure if this is the right thread to ask - but you made a comment in the discussion today about not consuming a lot of news. How do you practically do that? So many apps have algorithms that you end up with stories thrown at you. I’d like to keep up on certain news but feel like I end up seeing too much or topics I’d rather avoid.

Is there a magical way to filter to only show certain topics?

do you just not go to any app to check?

JP am grappling with the same, it’s like a double edged sword with every consumption source. How nice it would be to have a steam filtered each day.

You’d think in this world of algorithms that are pushing news to me on apple news - i could also have a filter for only what i want!

Enjoyed this. I wish it wasn't during working hours though as I enjoy the idea of sitting in community with others in 'real time.' Happened to have the day off so jumped on and was very pleased. Thanks
